What manufacturing Has to Offer You.
How many times over the years have you heard the term : First impressions make all the difference? Right or wrong we are a societ that ,many times, judges a book by its cover.
Yesterday, I attended the 2017 PMTS show in Columbus Ohio. This show always occurs on the off year from the International Manufacturing & Technology Show which happens at the McCormick Center in Chicago Illinois. IMTS will return to Chicago in 2018. So this year we headed down to Columbus Ohio's convention center to experience the 2017 PMTS show.
PMTS (Precision Machining Technology Show) gives a nice, consise, overview of the ever changing world of manufacturing. We like to keep our eye on the pulse of manufacturing to better serve our customers. We came away with a lot more than that!
That first impression that I described before? It was uplifting, intelligent, busy, technological, fast-paced and completely filled with people from all walks of life. For many years now women have trickled into the ranks of manufacturing. This show was no different.
Companies sent staff members that consisted of all women. But the big surprise of the day?
Millenials filled the room. They attended the show not as students but as fellow collegues & professionals who will be the decisionmakers the future of their companies.
In addition, many of the booths were manned by young professionals: young women and men who have the knowledge, confidence & ability inform the attendees on new products, services, and machine tools. Manufacturing is on the rise. The careers are boundless. New technologies are increasing and the buzz in the room was refreshing. The energy was empowering. New jobs, processes & products. What a success story!
Rossi Machinery Services promises to keep this dialogue going, to keep pace with manufacturing, to find new products, new services that make you more efficient. Making the commitment to manufacturing has always been easy. Learning new ways, new products, new programs is the challenge that we embrace every day. Finding you solutions that work and make your ability to compete increase. That strengthens the USA made brand. It strengthens manufacturing.
Rossi Machinery Services can and will compete in the new manufacturing world. Will you?
Ashland Ohio Safety Council Hosts Guarding Class
Did you know that in addition to our #machinetoolrebuilds & repairs, we sell products that compliment manufacturing and other companies? Yes. We are an #authorizedRockfordSytem distributor.
Recently we have been very busy #guarding machines for several large and small companies.
Since there is an OSHA requirement for guarding, we thought that we would share it with you.
The #OSHA requirment:
Machine guarding. 1910.212(a)(1)
One or more methods of machine guarding shall be provided to protect the operator and other employees in the machine area from hazards such as those created by point of operation, ingoing nip points, rotating parts, flying chips , falling parts and sparks. Is an important component to keeping your employees, visitors, & staff safe.
We live in busy times and more often companies all tend to wait for something to force them into looking at their #safety #policies, but being pro-active & #guarding before an incident will make all the difference.
Rossi Machinery can offer you discounts on the guarding, guarding the machines one at a time, or all at once. We work with our clients because we know that saving money will increase your bottom line, but sometimes we need to invest in precautionary equipment:
It only takes one accident to turn the company up side down!
So join us tomorrow at the ASHLANDOHIOSAFETYCOUNCIL for a look at guarding. We promise to make it as painless as it can be!
Rossi Machinery Services is dedicated to helping you to be #OSHACOMPLIANT!

"Rebuilding Your Machine Can Save You Money"
Happy New Year from all of us at Rossi Machinery Services. With the new year comes new product lines & the option of rebuilding #machines instead of purchasing them. Capital investments are costly & the decision to improve on your efficiency is always a pressing matter when running a business.
Our rebuilds provide your company with the ability to compete, increase the machine's performance and save you money. A few years ago we branded our rebuilds " NuBuild by ROSSI".
Why Rossi? Mike Rossi was trained in the German-style of rebuilding that concentrates on the machine tool's geometry. This is important because rebuilding the machine with its original design in mind asssists in the return to NEW Machine tolerances! Mike's rebuilds are still out there on the production floor -most 20+ years. He not only rebuilds with the geometry but "good enough" is not in his volcabulary.
The ACER E-mill head utilizes a vector type inverter duty frequency drive. This eliminates the reeves drive which is where you see most of the wear and damage in a milling head.
With most of your imported milling machines this becomes an issue because finding the parts is usually difficult. Not only is there typically a three to four week lead time, but the parts are usually over priced.
In some cases we're not able to find the parts and have to make them. That's pricey because we don't have the set up for that, so it's custom made. Lets face it, a customer doesn't want me to spend sixteen hours taking apart their milling head, establishing what's wrong with it, then the parts are nowhere to be found, expensive, or a month away from delivery.
A lot of times it's around the same price or even cheaper to just buy a new milling head from the start. While factoring in the price of parts and labor,it's quicker and you have a whole new head rather than an old one with some new parts in it.
With Bridgeport heads, I'm still a huge fan. You can find the replacement parts, and they're fair priced. However, after installing and using the ACER E-mill head, I must say that it's worth exploring that option. Reason being that they are utilizing the current technological advances and they're easy on the budget.
Rossi Machinery Services, Inc. is an authorized distributor for ACER. We're able to answer any questions you may have about the product and supply you with all the literature.
##Gerson #Products have been leading the way for 60 years so when they read our mission to provide only the #finest #quality product lines, they knew that working with Rossi Machinery Services would be a great partnership.
In August of this year we worked with Gerson Products to become a distributor for their #safetyproducts. This includes the USA made respirators that are #GSA approved. It was a great fit because Rossi Machinery Services is a #woman-owned and certified WBENC & WOSB corporation. We've also had history with fulfilling government contracts.
We did not , however, accept Gerson soley because we do contract with #government entities but also because we strongly support the #made in #America #movement. In additon Gerson product lines suit our product models.
Each product must show quality and usefulness for our customers while saving them money. Gerson Products fit the bill.
As we roll out this new safety product line over the next few months, we eagerly look forward to working with Louis M. Gerson Co, who is dedicated to quality, service, and price.
From #full #face #respirators to the #cartridges and #filter #replacements and #disposable #respirators, we have you covered. Did you know that we are happy to stock your preferred models? Give us your preferred products and we'll provide you with a #free #quote. Let's see if we can beat your current pricing! Why use Rossi Machinery?
Rossi Machinery works hard to be your partner in the product lines, machine services, machine rebuilds, machine accessories, and parts. At Rossi Machinery, we don't just fill the order. We want to provide the kind of #customerservices that used to be the standard. Our awards, certifications, recommendations and experience just speaks to our quality and customer service. We have over 21 years of serving manufacturing -even across the country. When you become a Rossi Machinery Services' customer, we become your partner in your success. Let us know what can we do for you? We simplify your #maintenance while keeping you #competitive.
Rossi Machinery pushes through 2016 with much to discuss.
As we enter the 3rd quarter of 2016 we would like to review our year so far. Never stopping to rest we continue to work on newer #product lines, new #rebuilds, new #repairs & new #customers.
Over 21 years ago Mike Rossi looked to provide something that in his experience as a #machine tool #technician and then a #maintenance supervisor for a mid-sized #manufacturing company that he saw was lacking in the industry.
Where were the service companies that could provide full services that encompassed all of the services that customers needed?
Mike's expansive education & experience made him a prime candidate to provide this type of company. Starting part-time & then after a flood of work he went full time in 1995. Soon we added #products to our #one-stop #shop called #Rossi #Machinery #Services.
This year we have added a new product line. It is also a safety line but the products are #madeintheUSA. As we continually work to support the #American #Manufacturer & the need to #buyAmerican we firmly believe that tangible products #manufacturered in the #USA will keep #AmericaStrong. Our product line covers #head & #eye #protection, covering industrial use, ARC Flash, ARC goggles, Tactical & Fire protection. We are a #woman-owned corporation who provides products to both large, small & #government contracts. We think that these new products will benefit the customer with lasting capacity & #quality. Like our other product lines, we can drop ship to your door without large lead times. Like our other product lines we pass #discounts on to the #customers. That is the value of Rossi Machinery Services. Check out the new line at:
Also happening so far is the value of a good rebuild. Did you know that you can ship in your machine tool, get it rebuilt & we #crate it, & ship it back to you - #productionready?
This year so far we have rebuilt the #Mori Seiki, several #Bridgeports, #Poreba & now the #Elb #grinder. Some of the rebuilds were complete, but others were #partial rebuilds.
In the spirit of our customer services we don't believe that there is a one size fits all in rebuilding. Your #budget might not handle a full rebuild or the machine might not need a complete rebuild. Mike Rossi makes it his #mission to give you an honest evaluation & quotation. Our quotes are free & we look forward to working with each old & new customer.
2016 has brought us some new customers from different industries, all needing repairs, rebuilds & product lines. It is always a pleasure to enter into a new #territory, to share our expertise, to make someone's machine run again, tweek a digital readout system, #repair a #Bridgeport head, quote a new #Vue digital readout system, replace an old Bridgeport head with an #ACER #E-Head or level the machine. We welcome & appreciate
"Getting it Right"
What makes a manufacturing program successful? From our perspective it takes a few simple basics. Despite the overwhelming need for CNC machinists, a good program takes the time and effort on the part of the school and the students to teach the basics of manual machine tools.
Like any profession, the instruction and practice is paramount in learning the material. The machine trades are no different. Learning the trade from the ground up creates a lasting understanding of the process. Utilizing various manual machines such as Bridgeports, lathes and grinders gives the student a well rounded experience in machining.
From there the students move to the digital readouts, and then onto the CNC Millpwr, a CNC milling machine with a simple yet comprehensive control. Getting used to the commands while still doing some of the manual process eases the student into the CNC world. We highly recommend this approach. It gives the student the confidence and knowledge to take the steps toward a full CNC machine.
When we train our machine tool repair/rebuild technicians, we utilize the same approach.
The apprentice must become familiar with these basics of a machine tool. For rebuilding machines, knowledge of machine tool geometry is important if the rebuild is to be exact and lasting. In addition to learning how a machine tool is built , how it works and an understanding of what the parts do, we train our apprentices to learn machining. Since we have an in-house machine shop for our repairs, the apprentices must learn machining as well as the maintenance skills.
For us a student who comes to us with machining abilities that is a plus!
The first picture on the above gallery gives a nice overview of the school's machine shop. As you can see the school provides a large quantity of machines for their students. Their classes are at capacity because of the strength of their program. The second picture shares a view of the Haas control simulators in the back of the classroom. Their students utilize these simulators to learn the Haas control.
Once the student learns this control, others such as Mitsubishi, Fanuc and Mazatrol will come easy.
We are well versed in many controls: Fanuc, Mitsubishi and Mazatrol controls.
Finally the last picture is a good view of the Millpwr machines. The Millpwr is a powerful control for entry level learners. It provides the student with a step by step education in a CNC program. Students can utilize the Millpwr and the Acu-rite Digital Readout Systems (not shown here) to learn to write a simple program. Learning to be precise, accurate, and knowledgeable, are all good traits for success in the manufacturing careers available.
Years ago, the trades were know to be dirty, dangerous, and demanding with a low job security.
Today all of these notions are wrong. Manufacturing jobs are plentiful, offering great wage packages, job security, in a clean, safe and ergonomically good environment. " We don't work harder; just smarter." Technology is a large part of this industry and the "tools of the trade" involve more than a hammer and a wrench. Our product lines reflect the changes in manufacturing: Renishaw probing, Heidenhain Products, Acu-Rite Products, Machine Guarding, Safety products and much more. We provide all of the tools to uplift the industry to the 21st Century standards. Our customer's shops reflect this environment of safety, cleanliness and organization.
As we go from the many different types of manufacturing firms, we hear the same story: how can we hire, retain and invest in good workers? The value of the manufacturing employee is a constant. If your student doesn't have interest in college, there are great alternatives in manufacturing. Jobs are plentiful. The compensation is great.
Rossi Machinery Services salutes all the schools that take the time and monetary investment to teach young students and Adults the manufacturing trades.
We share with each of them that we recommend this process described here. If you are interested in more information on the Acu-Rite Millpwr or the Acu-rite Digital Readout systems, we are the authorized distributor of these product lines.
Did you know that we sell these products and service the machines to schools at a #discount? We are dedicated to the promotion of our industry. If you have a #school, a #career center or a #university that has machines, ask us on how we can save you money with the repair or the products to teach the trade.
Refurbished VS Rebuild: Can it be done?
The question we get a lot is: Can we just refurbish the machine or do we need a complete rebuild?
Often the customer has gotten other quotes that are high and seem like overkill. Can you put too much time and effort into a rebuild? The answer is yes. Coming from a rebuild company that might seem like we are talking ourselves out of work. The simple answer is that customers are not uneducated about their machines. Many are very aware of the machine's age and abilities.
Often new machine costs are prohibitive, but also keeping an old machine is not always the best idea. We try to educate our customers on the pros and cons of the new vs rebuilt vs refurbishing machines. Each is a case by case evaluation. We make it our mission to work with each customer's needs and design a quote that will work for them. In our line of work there is NO one size fits all. Our recommendation: Don't go with a company that tries to fit you into that one size fits all category. It is important to weigh all of your options. We can give you the information in order for you to make an informed decision.
Our reputation for direct and honest evaluations has kept us one of the most sought after rebuilding companies around Ohio. In fact, we have rebuilt machines as far away as Washington State. With the cost of shipping affordable, we just ship them in and ship them out -production ready.
Although we are small in size, we are big on customer service, quality of our work, and for the lasting power of our rebuilds. For over 21 years we have sold, rebuilt, repaired & installed great products & machines.
Our newest example of our work comes under the classification of a refurbished machine. The difference? We did not completely rebuild these two grinders. Why? They did not need it and we are glad to share that information with the customer. We like repeat customers and we have a large list of them. It is a testament to our craftsmanship and talents.
The Cincinnati grinders had a few important things done to them. This refurbishing of the machine will give it lasting power without doing a complete rebuild. In all cases complete rebuilding is the best solution but often the type of work that the machine does, the cost and age of the machine, and the budget of the customer will make refurbishing a good solution for the machines. For these two machines refurbishing was the solution. We did some great things to make it better:
