"Getting it Right"What makes a manufacturing program successful? From our perspective it takes a few simple basics. Despite the overwhelming need for CNC machinists, a good program takes the time and effort on the part of the school and the students to teach the basics of manual machine tools. Like any profession, the instruction and practice is paramount in learning the material. The machine trades are no different. Learning the trade from the ground up creates a lasting understanding of the process. Utilizing various manual machines such as Bridgeports, lathes and grinders gives the student a well rounded experience in machining. From there the students move to the digital readouts, and then onto the CNC Millpwr, a CNC milling machine with a simple yet comprehensive control. Getting used to the commands while still doing some of the manual process eases the student into the CNC world. We highly recommend this approach. It gives the student the confidence and knowledge to take the steps toward a full CNC machine. When we train our machine tool repair/rebuild technicians, we utilize the same approach. The apprentice must become familiar with these basics of a machine tool. For rebuilding machines, knowledge of machine tool geometry is important if the rebuild is to be exact and lasting. In addition to learning how a machine tool is built , how it works and an understanding of what the parts do, we train our apprentices to learn machining. Since we have an in-house machine shop for our repairs, the apprentices must learn machining as well as the maintenance skills. For us a student who comes to us with machining abilities that is a plus! The first picture on the above gallery gives a nice overview of the school's machine shop. As you can see the school provides a large quantity of machines for their students. Their classes are at capacity because of the strength of their program. The second picture shares a view of the Haas control simulators in the back of the classroom. Their students utilize these simulators to learn the Haas control. Once the student learns this control, others such as Mitsubishi, Fanuc and Mazatrol will come easy. We are well versed in many controls: Fanuc, Mitsubishi and Mazatrol controls. Finally the last picture is a good view of the Millpwr machines. The Millpwr is a powerful control for entry level learners. It provides the student with a step by step education in a CNC program. Students can utilize the Millpwr and the Acu-rite Digital Readout Systems (not shown here) to learn to write a simple program. Learning to be precise, accurate, and knowledgeable, are all good traits for success in the manufacturing careers available. Years ago, the trades were know to be dirty, dangerous, and demanding with a low job security. Today all of these notions are wrong. Manufacturing jobs are plentiful, offering great wage packages, job security, in a clean, safe and ergonomically good environment. " We don't work harder; just smarter." Technology is a large part of this industry and the "tools of the trade" involve more than a hammer and a wrench. Our product lines reflect the changes in manufacturing: Renishaw probing, Heidenhain Products, Acu-Rite Products, Machine Guarding, Safety products and much more. We provide all of the tools to uplift the industry to the 21st Century standards. Our customer's shops reflect this environment of safety, cleanliness and organization. As we go from the many different types of manufacturing firms, we hear the same story: how can we hire, retain and invest in good workers? The value of the manufacturing employee is a constant. If your student doesn't have interest in college, there are great alternatives in manufacturing. Jobs are plentiful. The compensation is great. Rossi Machinery Services salutes all the schools that take the time and monetary investment to teach young students and Adults the manufacturing trades. We share with each of them that we recommend this process described here. If you are interested in more information on the Acu-Rite Millpwr or the Acu-rite Digital Readout systems, we are the authorized distributor of these product lines. Did you know that we sell these products and service the machines to schools at a #discount? We are dedicated to the promotion of our industry. If you have a #school, a #career center or a #university that has machines, ask us on how we can save you money with the repair or the products to teach the trade.

Really cool photos of the school shop. How do you handle safety when all the students are working at once?
