MORI SEIKI : THE FINAL STAGES OF THE REBUILD

What Our Rebuild Department Can Accomplish For You:  NuBUILD BY ROSSI

Picture
Today the Mori Seiki moves into the final phase of its rebuild process. We are proud to say that the machine that sat under an awning in the elements is successfully running today. Pictured on the left is the installation of the X axis Ball Screw.
Picture
There was .002 of lost motion detected in the movement of the axis.  Upon removal of the Ball Screw for inspection we found that the mounting plate had been damaged.  (See Below)
What did we do in that case?  In our machine shop we manufactured a new plate, cleaned and re-packed the Ball Screw support bearings. (pictured below)

While the Ball Screw was out of the machine, we used that time to send the I/O board out for repair.  In our troubleshooting, we discovered issues with the control on power up.  Below is a picture of the I/O board installed in the machine.  All of the functions are operational.

Rossi Machinery Will Train Your Staff

Do you have a great maintenance staff? Are you looking for affordable ways to build their skills? With over 35 years experience in the machine tool maintenance field, we can offer the type of specialized training that will impact your maintenance departments' abilities to troubleshoot and keep your equipment in great running order.

These seminars can be tailored for the entry level personnel or experienced staff to gain a great new skill. Our Ashland, Ohio facility is just off of I-71 between Cleveland and Columbus, making it easy to reach our training from anywhere.   We can offer standardized or customized training that teaches the skills you are looking to improve or obtain.  Seminars are usually one or two days and we train for all types of manufacturing maintenance.  Some of the topics that our interested customers have suggested are:
  • Digital Readouts:  This seminar will focus on a general operation and need for digital readout systems. The seminar will explain how they can increase your productivity and gain the company a great return on their investment.  The skills taught are as follows:  How to install a digital readout system correctly.  How to troubleshoot them.  How to properly clean the scales.  No previous knowledge is required to take this seminar.
  • Preventative Maintenance:  This seminar will focus on the need to establish & implement a preventative maintenance program in your facility.  The seminar will go over the basics for establishing a program and how your entry level personnel can be empowered and taught the best practices and skills for this task.  Save your company in the long run by making this part of the maintenance staff's scheduled work load.  Each Preventative Maintenance Program is tailored to your equipment and this seminar will assist your staff in creating this program.
  • Hydraulic , Lubrication & Bearing Installation: Although your staff may have already performed some of these maintenance tasks, we often find that many general maintenance personnel do not have the "tricks & skills" for troubleshooting these particular procedures.  This seminar will include a discussion of each topic with a review of the basics for each of these tasks.
  • Electric Motor Diagnostics: Knowing what to do with a motor that is "acting up" can mean the difference between purchasing a new expensive motor or troubleshooting & repairing the old motor.  Did you know that sometimes the "fix" is something unrelated?  Find out in this seminar how to troubleshoot and diagnose a motor problem.
  • Safety With Guarding Your Equipment:  Rossi Machinery Services is an authorized distributor for Rockford Safety Systems.  We discount to our customers this product line.  There is nothing more important than safe guarding your employees, staff and visitors from an operating machine.  Guarding really is affordable and in this seminar we will cover the types of guarding, switches and general safety practices for machines.  Our emphasis will be on guarding. Guarding is not a one size fits all.  Guarding is available for many types of machines.  We will cover types, needs, and pricing for your equipment. OSHA requires guarding and it is one of their focuses. Stay ahead of the game by educating your staff on what type of guarding is out there.  Seminar attendees can purchase the guarding through Rossi Machinery Services, however, that is not the purpose of this seminar.

Wanted:  Maintenance Man

Mike Rossi, founder & owner of Rossi Machinery Services, makes maintenance, troubleshooting & rebuilding of machine tools look easy. With over 35 years' experience and a strong background in machine tool geometry, rebuilding, electrical and all aspects of machine tools, it is not hard to understand his expertise.  When asked how he has built such an impressive resume crossing many different trades and talents, Mike will simply respond that nothing worthwhile is easy.  Dedication, a strong determination to succeed, and a great work ethic for which he credits his father, Tony Rossi and Uncle Cosmo Guistino, has paid off twenty times over.  Twenty years of a successful company that dedicates itself to excellence, the finest customer service and savings to our customers has brought us an impressive list of customers:  Lockheed Martin, Timken Co., J.M. Smuckers, Luk USA. to name a few.
Asked why he thought customer service was an important part of Rossi Machinery Services' mission, Mike explains that his business model was created from  his training. His German teachers demanded both excellence on the job and in customer service.
When he accepted his new position at Reuther Mold & Manufacturing as maintenance supervisor, Mike took on the responsibility of keeping the company's maintenance costs down. This experience taught him the importance of staying within a  budget.   Along with his continuing education & his work experiences, Mike was ready to create the company that he had always wanted with the vision that would center on customer needs, their budgets, &  the care of their machines- some of which were very old.  His training taught him how to make a machine last.

Rebuilding is an inexpensive way to save the heavy costs of buying a new machine. Our rebuilt machine tools have new machine tolerances. In rebuilding machine tool geometry is key. Not all rebuilds are performed the same.  Rebuilding is an art; one that is still needed today. Many of the machines we see now are CNC machines.   Our rebuilds are so good that many machines are still on the production floor - 20+ years. That's why we call our machine rebuilds:  NuBuild by ROSSI.

Are all machines candidates for rebuilds? Mike says "No."  His integrity is very important to him and part of his business model. "When it is not cost effective to rebuild or repair a machine, I tell the customer " he says.  "Why would anyone call you back if you are not upfront with them?" The call backs are the payoff, usually in a larger job. People need to trust you with their equipment.  Whether or not the machine is old or brand new, the equipment is their investment and their livelihood.  It is important to them so it is important to Rossi Machinery Services."

"I have obtained some of the best and biggest customers by first telling them that their machine is not repairable." He continues. "My reputation is very important to me; it is part of my business model". " If I lose the job, so be it" Mike says.
Lockheed Martin is still returning for Mike's work despite moving their operations from Ohio to New York. Why? Reputation, excellence,  honesty and his talent keep them turning to Rossi Machinery Services.  "We are small" Mike says "but my customers know that I will do right by them".  Rossi Machinery Services sets itself apart from the large & small repair companies because we make the customer's equipment our priority; not every company can claim this.
"Many repair companies, are hit and run," Mike says, " I know this because I get calls to fix the mistakes made on earlier repairs. That's not us.  We cover new and old machines because even large corporations have tight maintenance budgets and need to see their investments last." Mike says. We'll be here when they make the call."
